TiE came into existence anecdotally when a few Silicon Valley executives
of Indian origin met by chance in late 1992. Out of that meeting came
the idea of bringing together high achievers of the Indus region for the
purpose of networking. Today, TiE has grown into a vibrant, professional
organisation with the mission to foster entrepreneurship and nurture entrepreneurs.
It has become a virtual movement with around 40 chapters spread across
the globe. TiEcon is an annual conference and is open to all budding entrepreneurs
as well as those already in business. TiEcon speakers and panelists comprise
the foremost practitioners of their art and include successful entrepreneurs
and professional who volunteer to share their experience and valuable
insights with aspiring entrepreneurs. In addition to providing in-depth,
up-to-date content, TiEcon serves as a forum where entrepreneurs can discuss
their specific problems and issues with professionals and successful entrepreneurs.
TiE achieves its goals through scheduled events and informal mentoring
activities. Monthly meetings serve as forums for invited speakers to share
their experiences, thereby stimulating thought, discussion and networking.
TiE's flagship event is TiEcon, an annual workshop/conference that is
attended by entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs.
TiE has inspired many startups in Silicon Valley. The informal relationships
formed at TiE have resulted in TiE members taking roles of mentors, advisors,
board members and investors. Many of these companies have already been
acquired or gone public.
